There are two ways to update:
- Using the Envato WordPress Toolkit Plugin:
- If you have not installed it yet go to Appearance > Install Plugins and install and activate this plugin
- It will need Envato Market API which can be found in API Keys from themeforest.net > Settings > Api API Keys and Generate an API key
- From left sidebar click on Envato Toolkit
- Type your username and fill the API key that you just retrieved from themeforest.net and save settings.
- Once the page refreshed, you should see the list of themes you have purchased.
- Once clicked, the theme will be updated to the most recent version.
- How To Automatically Update Your Themeforest WordPress Theme
- Via host (if you are experienced in working with host, this method is recommended):
- Please login to your Themeforest account and from "download tab", download the latest version of the theme.
- If you have made changes in theme main files such as PHP, js, CSS then save them in another place to apply them after uploading a new version of the theme.
- If you have not changed anything as mentioned above, it's OK and nothing will be gone.
- To update, please go to wp-content/themes and remove the old theme then copy the newly-downloaded file (do not replace).
- It's always a good idea to get a backup of your theme folder in case you need to come back to the previous version.
Note:
- After updating, please delete installed plug-ins and re-install them via Appearance> Install Plug-ins and it is strongly recommended to delete plug-ins one by one to avoid conflict in plug-in uninstaller
- If you have made changes in theme main files such as PHP, js, CSS then save them in another place to apply them after uploading a new version of the theme.
- if your site is live and users are visiting your pages please make your site in “coming soon mode” by using maintenance mode plugins such as "WP Maintenance Mode" then go to Appearance> Themes and deactivate the theme and activate one of WordPress default themes.
